With Blue Pac, crane and waste compaction operations can be carried out without diesel exhaust fumes or engine noise. Lunds Renhållningsverk has been operating a crane truck equipped with Blue Pac since January 2018.
I’ve worked at Lunds Renhållningsverk for 17 years and have been operating cranes since 2016. When we decided to electrify our crane trucks, we were looking for a solution that was stable and reliable in daily operation. We equipped one vehicle and have been using the Blue Pac system since 2018. I have to say, it works very well. Service is incredibly fast, no hassle at all – it just keeps running.
We’ve made a broad commitment to electrification within the City of Lund and are at the forefront in many areas. This includes refuse trucks, street cleaning vehicles, and we’re now testing underground charging cables along a route where we can charge electric buses. We’ve also introduced a tram system in the city.
Electric cranes contribute to significant environmental savings, as we use much less diesel. After the depreciation period, the investment pays for itself through reduced fuel consumption. Operating without the truck’s diesel engine running also makes the work much quieter. We disturb people less, and one clear benefit is that we can plan our routes differently. Today, we can start working in the city centre early in the morning without disturbing residents.
Performance is excellent – in fact, it almost feels better than running the crane off the diesel engine. I get the sense that the crane actually moves faster when powered electrically. Since the crane’s service life is longer than the truck’s, we simply move the equipment to a new vehicle when it’s time to replace the truck.
The crane easily lasts a full working day, and I really hope we can equip a second vehicle in the future. Who knows – maybe we’ll end up electrifying the entire truck.
Yes, both the crane and the collaboration with ETP work extremely well. It’s been a very positive experience, and people are genuinely impressed when we show up and can work quietly. It’s fantastic.
With Blue Pac, the vehicle is equipped with an electric power system that drives the crane quietly, efficiently and completely emission-free. The system reduces fuel consumption and noise levels, while creating a better working environment and lowering operating costs. Blue Pac delivers stable performance and long operating times – a sustainable solution for smart, climate-adapted waste management of the future.
