With Blue Pac, you can operate a crane or compact waste without exhaust fumes and noise from the diesel engine. Lund Waste Management has equipped a crane truck with Blue Pac, which has been in operation since January 2018.
Hello Daniel Wanegård! Tell us about your electric cranes.
I have worked at Lunds Renhållningsverk for 17 years and have been driving a crane since 2016. When we decided to electrify our crane trucks, we looked for a stable and reliable solution. We have equipped one truck and have been using Blue Pac's system since 2018. I must say that it works very well. Super-fast service. No problems, it just keeps ticking along.
Why are you electrifying?
We are investing heavily in electric power in Lund Municipality and are at the forefront in this area. This includes refuse collection vehicles, street maintenance and we are now testing underground cables on a stretch where we can charge electric buses. And we now have trams in the city. Electric cranes lead to environmental savings because we use much less diesel. After the depreciation period, we will have recouped the investment through reduced fuel consumption. The fact that we work without the vehicle's diesel engine running makes operations quiet. We cause less disturbance, and one effect is that we can re-plan our routes. Now we can start working centrally first thing in the morning without disturbing residents.
How does it work?
The performance is good, and it works almost better than when running on the diesel engine. I get the feeling that the crane runs faster with electricity. Since the crane's depreciation period is longer than that of the vehicle, we simply transfer the equipment to the new vehicle when the time comes. The crane's capacity is a full working day, and I hope we can equip a second vehicle in the future. Who knows, maybe we can electrify the entire vehicle?
